This large 15cm Maori Double Manaia Bone Necklace is beautifully carved, making it a standout piece.

The cow bone pendant comprises two entwined Manaia, the Maori spiritual provider over land, sea and air.

The Manaia is believed to ward off intruders and evil spirits.

They have birdlike heads, representing the sky, aspects of human bodies (see the hand) and features of sea creatures, which you can see in the tails.  

Each manaia has a paua shell eye.

Notice the beautiful surface carving over most of the necklace.  

The manaia hangs from a long black adjustable cord.  The bone carving is approximately 15cm (5 1/2") long.
