Millstream Gardens Kawakawa Healing Balm is a natural healing balm to put on insect bites and stings, rashes, bruises and wounds.

Kawakawa (Macropiper excelsum), a native New Zealand tree, is known as the "Pharmacy of the New Zealand Forest". The small tree, with distinctive heart shaped leaves, is a significant and sacred plant to Maori. Among its many healing properties, it is traditionally reputed to soothe insect bites and stings, skin rashes, poor circulation, bruises, wounds, burns, aches and pains.

Millstream Gardens makes this natural healing balm from a maceration of Kawakawa leaves in Hawkes Bay (NZ) Extra Virgin Oil and Beeswax.

The card attached to the Kawakawa Healing Balm shows a photo of the Hundertwasser Toilets at Kawakawa. Kawakawa is also the name of a Northland town, not far from ShopNZ.com. Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser lived in Waikare Inlet, east of Kawakawa from 1975 until his death in 2000. In 1998 the Kawakawa public toilets were upgraded as a community project, with Hundertwasser designing and helping to build the distinctive building. Common themes in his work include bright colours and organic shapes, embracing curves, spirals, and textured surfaces. He strove to create works in harmony with nature and was a passionate environmentalist.
